Transfer to Society
At the University of Cologne, ‘transfer’ means more than simply passing on knowledge through patents, licences or spin-offs. It is a reciprocal, lively process – supported by the entire university: researchers, academic staff, technical and administrative staff and students.
Transfer happens when science connects with business and society. Be it through direct solutions – for patients, court proceedings, companies, or schools – or through the potential of basic research for future innovations.
When scientific findings give rise to entrepreneurial ideas, the Gateway Exzellenz Start-up Center supports aspiring entrepreneurs on their path to self-employment. Central institutions such as the Children’s and Junior University or the programs for guest students and senior citizens also make knowledge publicly accessible. Information on other services the University of Cologne offers in the area of knowledge transfer is compiled on the Support & Services page.
