Our degree programmes

As a comprehensive university, the University of Cologne offers a large number of degree programmes in a wide range of disciplines at its six Faculties. In addition to career-oriented "classics" such as medicine, law, and teacher education, the university offers a broad spectrum of degree programmes in STEM fields, the social sciences, economics, and the humanities. The university also provides unique interdisciplinary programmes that are only available in Cologne.

Orientation and internationality

The University of Cologne’s degree programmes reflect its strong research profile, making research accessible and offering students the opportunity to study in a dynamic environment shaped by internationally renowned top-level research.

Students benefit from a wide range of individual opportunities and are encouraged to actively participate in shaping future-oriented learning formats. The programmes are characterized by their innovative approaches, multi- and interdisciplinary orientation, and  international perspectives. Many are offered across Faculties. They are embedded in regional, national and international cooperation networks, enriching the academic experience. Opportunities to study abroad are an integral part of the academic qualification, while English-language courses strengthen the international dimension of the university’s degree programmes.

The aim is to offer a future-oriented, socially relevant range of courses that is closely aligned with the students’ needs . So, alongside fostering research and academic skills, key elements of the educational approach are  future skills, digital education and artificial intelligence, sustainability and democracy - all of which shape the university’s learning opportunities in meaningful ways.
