Who can become a member?

The Junior Faculty Club (JFC) is open to all postdoctoral early career researchers affiliated with the University of Cologne or an institution of the Cologne Research Alliance who are on the path toward a tenured professorship (‘late postdocs’, at least two years after completing their doctorate).

These include, among others:

  • W1 professors
  • Junior research group leaders
  • Habilitands
  • Stipendiates

(representative and non-exhaustive list)

If you are interested in becoming a member of the JFC, simply send us an email in which you introduce yourself in a few sentences:jfc-shk@uni-koeln.de. The board of the JFC will then decide on your admission at its next meeting.

Benefits of membership

As a member of the Junior Faculty Club, you gain access to a wide range of opportunities designed to support you on your academic career path.

Our Offerings

  • Workshops: Practice-oriented events on various professional topics that foster your academic and personal development.
  • Individual Career Counseling: Personalized sessions to help you prepare for appointment procedures and plan your future career.
  • General Assemblies: An annual meeting of all members to provide feedback, connect, and offer peer support.
  • Representation in University Committees: Your concerns and interests are voiced in key decision-making processes within the university.

Members of the JFC can participate in individual coaching sessions to prepare specifically for appointment procedures and take part in our workshop and lecture program. Through their input, they actively contribute to the development of a sustainable support concept for early-career researchers at the University of Cologne.

Furthermore, the club’s events promote interdisciplinary exchange, networking, and the establishment of long-term collaborations, creating a vibrant community of young researchers who support and strengthen one another.

Cooperation with the Albertus Magnus Center

In cooperation with the Albertus Magnus Center, we also offer up to two-hour consultation sessions with experts from the German Association of University Professors and Lecturers (DHV).

Possible topics include:

  • Optimizing application documents for (junior) professorships
  • Preparing for selection interviews
  • Strategic planning and negotiation tactics
  • Developing strong and distinctive professional profiles

If you are interested in scheduling a consultation, please send an email to coaching@verw.uni-koeln.de or amc.office@verw.uni-koeln.de and briefly describe your inquiry. Consultations can take place online, by phone, or in person at the DHV offices in Bonn.
