Please type any Wallerian degeneration-related comments for open discussion below and hope that somebody will respond !

Some suggested issues:

- Protection of axons could open new therapeutic routes in human neurological disease.  Agree ?  Disagree ?  Why ?

 - Axon degeneration has been neglected both in relation to its importance in human disease and as a fascinating biological process.  Agree ?  Why do you think this might be (e.g., it's hard to study axon degeneration directly, eliminating the effects of cell bodies, myelin, macrophages ?  Or cell bodies get more attention because they control most transcription and translation ?  Other ideas ?).

 - Any suggestions how Wld, as a predominantly or exclusively nuclear protein, could protect axons ?

 - Do you think the protective mechanism is more likely to be mediated by ubiquitination or NAD-metabolism  ?  Maybe elements from both proteins ?

 - What other ways are there to protect axons ?

Please email your comments to Michael Coleman or Weiqian Mi, we will put your suggestions or comments on our Discussion Forum regularly.
