Overview
We are an evo-devo lab focusing on the insect extraembryonic membranes, which represent an adaptive innovation that has undergone several profound evolutionary changes within different insect lineages. During embryogenesis, the two epithelial membranes display a large repertoire of morphogenetic movements, for which we are investigating the underlying molecular regulation and the dynamics of cell and tissue-scale rearrangements. Our main study species for this comparative work are the milkweed bug, Oncopeltus fasciatus, and the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum.
