Institutional racism has been a scholarly and public discussion topic in the US more than in Germany in the last years. Institutional racism includes the idea that individuals belonging to racialized groups have worse life chances and outcomes because of systemic and institutional differences that produce such differentiated outcomes. In the case of criminal justice, people from racialized groups are more likely to be criminalized, and are sentenced more harshly.
Mitali Nagrecha and Nicole Bögelein jointly conducted a research project of institutional racism in the German criminal legal system. In their conversation they will share what they have learned, including differences in their findings about Germany and literature from the US.
Registration is necessary, as seating may be limited. Please register through the Cologne International Forum website: https://cif.uni-koeln.de/events/salon#c127356
