Cells are continuously exposed to endogenous and exogenous sources of DNA damage that threaten genome integrity. To counteract these challenges, DNA damage response networks coordinate lesion bypass, DNA repair and, when necessary, cell death. Dysregulation of these protective mechanisms promotes genomic instability, a key driver of tumor evolution.
In this seminar, Professor Amelio, an internationally recognized molecular and systems toxicologist, will present two recently identified mechanisms that contribute to tumor suppression through distinct aspects of DNA damage tolerance and repair.
These findings provide new insights into how cells preserve genome integrity and prevent malignant transformation.
