Time to ReflectWelcome to week 10: That's a lot of writing! I have enjoyed reading the texts I have got so far. I have noticed from some of the students, from whom I have got both an early and more recent text, that there was a marked improvement in writing. Thinking about and creating a text per week in English is in itself a valuable exercise. But as you yourselves know, writing for a specific audience and getting some feedback on what you have written is more natural and more comforting than just writing in a journal, which tends to be very informal, anyway. So as we approach the end of the semester - only three more texts to go - try to put as much into your writing as you can and give your peers their fair share of feedback. I thought the assignment this week could fit into the holiday season and the general atmosphere of the year as it nears its end . So without much ado, here are some suggested topics: 1. Your favourite holiday experience This is a mixture of different types of writing so be sure and think about the structure of the one you choose.Remember a strong controlling idea makes for much more interesting reading and helps you focus your support and details better. And, as I promised at the introductory meeting, with new items added to the program, it is possible to have the different classes correct each other. So starting today (Saturday), Münster will correct Cologne and vice versa for the next week. You can gladly introduce yourselves if you want or just go on as usual. Those of you who have the numbers 51-70 can send me your text this week if you'd like. (note the special instance of would in an if clause!) And, of course, I wish all of you a fun and at the same time relaxing holiday season and we will "meet" again in the new year! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!! |
