An Expository Paragraph

The "Europaschule Köln"

One of the central ideas of the "Europaschule Köln" is to prepare its pupils for the European labour market. To achieve this goal, the school offers its pupils many more foreign languages than most schools. The students at the "Europaschule" can choose from eight languages: French, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Spanish, Turkish, Russian and German. In teaching foreign languages they emphasize learning how to communicate in varied situations of everyday life because that is the prerequisite for survival on the European labour market. Furthermore, the pupils have contact with other pupils of other European countries several times during their stay at the school Methods for getting into contact with other pupils from European countries in order to practise communication are manifold: Different types of modern media are brought into action, such as e-mail, telefax, computer and audio and videocassettes. The more old-fashioned ways of communication are also used, such as letters and telephone calls. At present there are about 16 connections to schools inside and outside the European Union. At international workshops, pupils of different nations also work together and learn from each other. This way the pupils get their first practical experience in dealing with other pupils in foreign countries.
