Sustainability Research Hub
Platform for Research and Sustainability at the University of Cologne
The Sustainability Research Hub is the University of Cologne’s open cooperation platform dedicated to strengthening, connecting, and increasing the visibility of sustainability-oriented research across the entire university.
The platform supports researchers at the University of Cologne in the spirit of our future-oriented planetary responsibility – because preserving ecological foundations is essential for a socially just and livable future. The Hub provides space for collaboration both within established disciplines and across faculty boundaries, fostering interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary exchange. It encourages researchers to inspire one another and to develop ideas and projects that address the complex questions on the path toward a sustainable society.
The Hub promotes a shared culture of sustainability at the University of Cologne by strengthening sustainability research, supporting early-career researchers, contributing to research-based teaching, transferring knowledge into practice, and fostering dialogue between research and society.
The Sustainability Research Hub concept
Fields of action
The Sustainability Research Hub focuses on three key areas:
- Sustainability as a concept: Advancing and reflecting on the concept and notion of sustainability
- Sustainability topics in research: Bringing together sustainability-related research projects and initiatives, and initiating and supporting new projects
- Sustainability in the research process: Developing, reflecting on, and disseminating good practices for sustainability-oriented research processes
Services
The services of the Sustainability Research Hub are aimed at researchers at all career stages at the University of Cologne and include:
- Regular open exchange and networking events such as workshops, conferences, and discussion formats
- Support in identifying and establishing contact with potential partners for interdisciplinary research projects
- Support for early career researchers in the field of sustainability research
- Targeted support in the conceptualization, development, and application of interdisciplinary research consortia
- Needs-based workshops, e.g., for preparing research clusters
- Consulting on funding opportunities in the field of sustainability research
- Increasing the reach of research projects through features on the university website and targeted social media communication
With the Sustainability Research Hub, we are creating a central space for networking and future-oriented research. In the spirit of our planetary responsibility, we develop solutions for global challenges – and promote a shared culture of sustainability put into practice.
