This year, the “Sustainability Days” will once again take place on the biomedical campus on September 9 and 10, 2026. The multi-day open-air event is organized by the Sustainability Working Group of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Cologne and, together with numerous initiatives, highlights the diverse sustainability efforts on campus and in the region. The program includes lectures, panel discussions, workshops, information stands, free repair services for bicycles and electronic devices, as well as a photo competition, and addresses topics such as climate change and health, plastic pollution in the oceans or healthy and sustainable nutrition in hospitals.
Even in the run-up to the event, participants can look forward to a varied program. The event kicks off with the lecture “Time to Act: Changing Course on Spaceship Earth” by Insa Thiele Eich, a meteorologist with a doctorate, on September 3 in Lecture Hall 1 of the WiSo Building. On September 8, one day before the official start of the Sustainability Days, the “Climate Conference Simulation” workshop will follow. In this interactive simulation game, participants will take on the roles of international stakeholders, jointly develop climate protection measures, and test their impact using climate simulation software. This will allow them to directly experience the challenges of global climate policy as well as the importance of international cooperation.
