Gardener - Ornamental Plant Cultivation
Gardeners in the field of ornamental plants have a green thumb. They cultivate different plants, both outdoors and in greenhouses.
As apprentices in the nursery, we’re able to work quite independently during our training and further develop our individual interests. The atmosphere is very relaxed and warm, which makes working in winter just as enjoyable as in summer.
Your profile
- At least Fachoberschulreife (technical secondary school entrance qualification)
- Good performance in Mathematics and Biology
- Joy in working in nature & interest in culture and care of plants
- Craft skills and service-oriented work
The apprenticeship course
- Duration of the apprenticeship: 3 years
- Full-time teaching units in Gärtnerische Berufsschule at Perlengraben in Cologne
- Inter-company courses in the training and test centres horticulture as well as various internships in garden centres

Your tasks
- You cultivate and propagate plants, perennials, shrubs outdoors as well as in the greenhouses for courses and scientific work
- You will gain practical experience in the use and design of plants
- You evaluate and use different earths, substrates and aggregates
- You will learn the responsible use of chemical, biotechnical and biological plant protection measures
