Training and further education

The Center for Advanced Teaching and Learning is currently offering a series of workshops on the topic of AI:

The Center for Teacher Education (ZfL) at the University of Cologne has developed a two-part self-study course ‘KI in der Bildung – eine Einführung’ and ‘KI in der Bildung – Anwendungsbeispiele’ for lecturers, but also for teachers in general:

In addition to these offers, there are a number of recommended online training and further education courses.

  • The AI Campus offers a free online course introducing language models and language assistants, followed by a discussion of university didactics, examination culture, and academic writing

  • The hochschuldidaktik akademie (Dr Ulrich Hanke and Nina Bach) offers a fee-based online course that teaches how ChatGPT and similar tools can be used to enhance teaching.

  • Telekom offers a portal with information on “ChatGPT & Co.” as part of its Teachtoday initiative. We particularly recommend a module that uses expert interviews to introduce important questions.

  • Along with the AI Service Centre Berlin Brandenburg, the Hasso Plattner Institute is offering a free online course that sheds light on the impact of generative AI on society, not just the education sector.

  • Google offers a comprehensive and free learning path with 10 online courses that introduce generative AI, as well as topics such as Responsible AI. The more technically oriented courses are general in nature but place a particular focus on Google’s AI systems and models (e.g. Bard, PaLM 2).

  • Microsoft offers a comprehensive, openly accessible twelve-week curriculum comprising 24 lessons that introduces artificial intelligence with a strong emphasis on the technical foundations.

  • A free and open curriculum, complemented by a detailed online course on prompting, aimed at both beginners and experts.
