Blended Intensive Programmes
What are Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs)?
Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) are an innovative mobility format within the framework of the Erasmus+ programme. They combine short, physical mobility phases (5 - 30 days) at a host institution with virtual learning phases (variable duration). These programmes enable students and teaching staff to gain international experience and collaborate on interdisciplinary projects.
Students thus have the opportunity to participate in short-term mobility, try out new learning methods, acquire intercultural skills, and receive at least 3 ECTS credits.
Financial support for mobile participants* is provided through an Erasmus+ short-term grant.
A BIP should be jointly designed by the respective faculties at the partner universities and ideally embedded into the curricula. At least 3 European higher education institutions are involved in a BIP.
* mobile participants = participants traveling to an in-person phase outside of Germany

Application
BIPs are designed and applied for by the respective faculties.
Applications for Erasmus+ funds for the financial support of participating students or for hosting a BIP in Cologne are submitted via Department 93 – International Mobility. The call for applications for BIPs completed by 01.07.2026 ran until 30.04.2025. Further calls will follow in the coming months.
To submit your application, please send the application form via email to erasmus_students(at)verw.uni-koeln(dot)de. After the application deadline, we will review the received applications and provide feedback regarding the allocation of funds.
Application as a sending institution:
Students selected by you are to participate in a BIP abroad. The students receive a short-term grant from Erasmus+ funds for the physical mobility phase.
Application as a coordinating institution:
You would like to coordinate and host a BIP in Cologne and, together with at least two other European universities, develop a teaching and learning format for an on-site BIP.
Cologne students can participate, but will not receive an Erasmus+ grant.
You will receive organizational support funds (OS funds, €400 per participant) for organizing the BIP.
Both as a sending and as a coordinating institution, the creation of an Inter-Institutional Agreement (IIA) between the participating faculties of the universities is mandatory!
Aufgaben
Welche Aufgaben hat der Fachbereich?
- Absprachen und Organisation mit den Partneruniversitäten inkl. Inter-Institutional Agreement (IIA)
- Inhaltliche Ausgestaltung und organisatorische Vorbereitung des BIP (in Absprache mit der aufnehmenden Hochschule), gemeinsames Lernkonzept und Lernprogramm mit Rahmenprogramm erstellen
- Klärung des Status der entsendeten Teilnehmenden an der aufnehmenden Einrichtung (Einschreibung etc.)
- Auswahl- und Bewerbungsprozess der Geförderten
- Informationsweitergabe an Teilnehmende der UzK
- Erstellen des Learning Agreements
- Anerkennung der 3 ECTS
- Einholen der erforderlichen Abschlussdokumente und Weiterleitung an Abt. 93

Die Fahrtkostenpauschale wird gemäß der Förderbedingungen im Erasmus+ Programm nun allen Stipendiat*innen gezahlt. Das Green Top-Up erhalten Sie bei Erfüllung der Bedingungen generell über die höhere Green Travel Fahrtkostenpauschale.

Further information
- Double funding from a simultaneous Erasmus long-term stay and participation in a BIP abroad is not permitted
- Participation in a BIP abroad counts towards the allowed Erasmus+ funding quota per study cycle (360 days per cycle)
- Please contact your faculty early on regarding the recognition of credit points earned during the BIP!
