German Language Courses

Even though English is commonly used as a working language in many institutes and seminars at the university, having at least a basic knowledge of German is very helpful for everyday life and leisure activities.

The International Office of the University of Cologne therefore offers a range of German language courses.

Courses

As a rule, pre-semester intensive courses as well as semester-long German courses are offered each semester. The respective dates can be found on the website of the Department of German as a Foreign Language.

Registration

Registration via our form is required to participate in a German course. International scholars registered with the Welcome Centre will receive the link to the form by email.

If you would like to register as an international scholar, please click here.

Enrolled PhD students are asked to use the registration form provided by the Department of German as a Foreign Language.

Placement Tests

If you already have some knowledge of German, you are also required to take a placement test. Details on how to access the test will be sent by email after course registration.

Fees

The course fee for international researchers at the University of Cologne is 250 euros.
