How to Find Postdoc Positions

There are generally two main options for working as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Cologne:

  1. Search for advertised positions on the university website. If you already have extensive research experience and several reputable publications in addition to your doctorate, you may also consider applying for an advertised junior professorship, with or without tenure track. Advertised postdoctoral positions at the University of Cologne can be found on the job portal.
  2. You have the option of contacting a professor in your field directly and asking whether a postdoctoral project or research stay in their working group is possible. Check the University of Cologne website for the appropriate faculty and the institutes/departments that match your field of research. Some faculty websites also provide an overview of the respective research areas under the heading ‘Research’. Once you have received confirmation from the professor, the next step is to secure external funding, for example in form of a scholarship or a third-party funded project. You can find possible scholarships in the database of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) or at the German Research Foundation (DFG).
